Sphere Abacus takes on supernatural thriller Safehaven

The distributor acquires international rights to the series based on James Seale's graphic novel, an intense story that fuses dreams, trauma and parallel realities.

Sphere Abacus has acquired international rights (except in the US) to the supernatural thriller Safehaven, a series produced by Ravenwood Productions and created by James Seale, based on his graphic novel published by Michael Bay's 451 Media Group.

Filmed in Canada and consisting of 10 one-hour episodes, Safehaven is directed by Kaare Andrews and Seale himself, with scripts by Sarah LarsenTamara MoulinCharlotte Corbeil-ColemanAdriana Capozziand Seale. Production is by Kevin V. DuncanStan Spry and Anthony Fankhauser.

With a style reminiscent of Black Swan and Jacob's Ladder, the series fuses the dream world with reality to build an intense and addictive experience. The cast is led by Georgie Murphy (Gen V, Murdoch Mysteries), Bob Frazer (Supergirl, Motherland) and Gino Anania (Skymed, The Porter).

The story follows Jenna Frost, a rebellious teenager with a troubled past who finds an outlet in art. After an accident leaves her in a coma, she awakens trapped in her own creation: the dark world of Safehaven, a high school plagued by paranoia and demons. Her only hope is John Rayburn, a school counselor with the ability to explore the unconscious, who fights to save her in both worlds.
