Saudi Arabia is positioning itself as a key player in the global film industry, according to a statement made by Prince Badr bin Abdullah, Minister of Culture and Chairman of the Saudi Film Commission, during the inauguration of the second edition of the Saudi Film Confex in Riyadh. Running from October 9 to 12, 2024, the event showcases the Kingdom’s ambition to become a hub for both regional and international film production.

Prince Badr emphasized the importance of the film industry not only as an economic driver but also as a means to empower local talent and foster strategic partnerships. The goal is to develop the infrastructure needed to support film production, distribution, and screenings in Saudi Arabia. He described the film sector as an opportunity to create stories that will remain in the cultural memory for generations, reinforcing the nation's Vision 2030 plan to diversify its economy and invest in the arts.

The four-day confex brings together an array of producers, filmmakers, and specialists from Saudi Arabia and around the world. Discussions during the event revolve around the cultural significance of cinema, its economic impact, and the role of financing in the sector. The confex also underscores the integration of the film industry with other development sectors, which is seen as crucial for achieving growth and leadership in the region.

This year’s Saudi Film Confex is notable for its interactive areas, including spaces for networking, auditions, exhibitions of filming locations within the Kingdom, and workshops. It also features an "ON-SET" challenge and discussions led by more than 65 prominent speakers across 35 cultural programs.

The event, now in its second edition with the support of Vision 2030, builds on the success of its first installment, focusing on the economic role of Saudi Arabia's growing film industry and fostering the exchange of ideas among local and international filmmakers., Saudi Arabia aims to create a vibrant film ecosystem that contributes to the global cinematic landscape while nurturing homegrown talent.
