Covid-19: WarnerMedia to discontinue HBO and linear movie channels in India and South Asia

15-10-2020
The Covid-19 crisis is affecting the global television industry, so WarnerMedia has decided to pull out their pay and linear, HBO (SD and HD) and WB, from India, Pakistan, Maldives and Bangladesh from 15 December 2020. The group will continue to operate and invest more on its kids brands Cartoon Network and Pogo and will increase local animation production.

Siddharth Jain, SVP and MD, Warner Media South Asia, said, 'After 20 years of successes, this was a difficult decision to make. The pay-TV industry landscape and the market dynamics have shifted dramatically, and the Covid-19 pandemic has accelerated the need for further change. We would like to express our heartfelt appreciation to all our partners and fans who have made HBO and WB household names'.

The offical statement from the network added that WarnerMedia will continue to have employees based in Mumbai, Delhi and Bengaluru to handle its kids brands operations, sales and marketing as well as the distribution of CNN International.
