Bollywood is placing its eyes on the Filipino cinema industry with Global One Studios having already confirmed five adaptations from ABS-CBN Film Production movies for the Indian market by Global One Studio. The deal, which will involve five movies top-billed by Philippines’ box office stars Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla, marks the first time for Filipino movies to be adapted in India, where its multi-billion-dollar cinema market produces about 800 films and sells about four billion tickets. 'We are thrilled to have our movies adapted for the Indian market. It is a welcome opportunity for ABS-CBN Films to share our well-loved and heartfelt Philippine stories and become a source of inspiration for global audiences. The Philippines and India share many common values, among which is the strong love for family, that resonate in our films and will soon be experienced by the people of India', said Olivia Lamasan, ABS-CBN Films managing director.
Ramesh Krishnamoorthy, President of Global One Studios, added: 'We are happy to be associated with ABS-CBN Films to bring their well-crafted love stories to the people of India by adapting their heartrending films in Indian languages. Family bonding and cultural values are common to both Philippines and India, which are captured seamlessly in their films. This will be the first time that five Filipino films will be remade in India and we are excited to join hands with ABS-CBN to showcase their relationship stories with the same intense and emotions through our films'.
The Indian studio is slated to produce the remake of top-grossing films Barcelona: A Love Untold, Can’t Help Falling In Love, Crazy Beautiful You, She’s Dating The Gangster, and The Hows Of Us, which was the highest-grossing film in the Philippines in 2018. The multi-adaptation deal is in line with ABS-CBN’s pursuit to expand globally by bringing its content across different continents and platforms and championing the Filipino talent in the international arena. It also coincides with the 10th anniversary celebration of the on-screen partnership of Kathryn and Daniel that led to their phenomenal success in Philippine cinema, television, and digital platforms.
