LAVS 2021: digital & content production in key regions

A new series of panels and sessions have been added to the VS Next agenda for LA Virtual Screenings, taking place on May 11-20. The event has confirmed 900 participants with close to 750 buyers from +70 countries. VS Next is produced by Nuevos Medios Entertainment and exclusively sponsored by Roku.

Along with the first five conferences revealed from last week, new sessions and round-tables have been confirmed, including hot topics such as digital and content production with a focus in key regions, where those businesses are getting stronger: MENA and Latin America. Additional programming will be announced in the run up to LAVS that recently confirmed 900 executives registered, from which close to 750 are buyers from +70 countries.

Among the highlights revealed is Parrot Analytics session “How to Successfully Expand Revenue Streams for Content Assets” to be premiered on May 14. Traditional borders between content platforms and geographies are falling apart. This erosion means entertainment leaders can now monetize content over a wide variety of options ranging from SVOD and AVOD platforms to consumer products, gaming, theatrical releases and traditional pay and linear TV models. Alejandro Rojas, director of Applied Analytics, Parrot Analytics, and Alex Nempeque, Data & Insights Director, WarnerMedia Latin America, return to LAVS to share their insights on how to develop content strategies that tap into wider sources of revenue streams.

On May 16, two paneles will be highlighted: “Content, Formats and Rights Protection: the new landscape”, an exclusive panel produced by Prensario International and the Format Recognition and Protection Association (FRAPA), an entity with than two decades supporting the format protection in the global marketplace. The panel will give describe the state of the format marketplace as it stands right now in the shadow of the pandemic. Hayley Babcock, FRAPA Advisory Board member, and owner of Hayley Babcock Media Consulting (HBMC), Carlotta Rossi Spencer, FRAPA Advisory Board member and Head of Acquisitions Banijay Group, and Maria Grechishnikova, CEO, Star Media LLC (Russia) will participate. The moderator will be Phil Gurin, FRAPA co-chairman and CEO of The Gurin Company.

And “MENA Content Trends: Identifying Opportunities”. OTT investment in original production and acquisition is increasing three fold over the past year in MENA. Four of the top regional players discuss their upcoming projects and content strategies. Join this strategic panel co-produced with Heba Korayem, content marketing consultant, H.Consult, moderator, and featuring Walid Finan, CEO, TenTime (Iraq), Nadine Samra, Chief Business Officer, Weyyak (UAE), Abe Shady Aboul Naga, General Manager, Viu, and Kamel Weiss, Strategic Business Development Director, GNAM/Spacetoon TV

Last but not least, another panel reflecting Latin America reaction to the pandemic. Co-produced with Banijay Rights, “Adapting to Covid-19: Business Twists to Evolve” on May 17 will show three key Latin American broadcasters sharing their experience of producing entertainment shows during the lockdown by restructuring existing formats, generating new ideas for format adaptions, and launching new Covid-proof shows. This panel will have a wide array of examples about how to work together, providers & clients, and go through the crisis. The panel is formed by Guillermo Pendino, VP Brand Head South Cone, ViacomCBS Networks America/Telefe (Argentina), Susana Umbert, production manager, Latina (Peru), and Patricia Daujotas, Content Director, Canal 10 (Uruguay). The moderator will be Michelle Wasserman, SVP, Latin America, USH and Brazil, Banijay Rights.
