WarnerMedia's HBO Go to debut on GlobeApp in the Philippines freom 2021
WarnerMedia Asia is still offering announcement around its operations in this market. After reorganize its board of exec, the company announce an alliance with Globe, the largest mobile network operator in the Philippines, for launch HBO GO, WarnerMedia’s streaming service in Southeast Asia, from early 2021.Yasmin Zahid, WarnerMedia’s Head of Affiliate & B2B Distribution in the region, said: 'During 2020, we’ve seen impressive engagement and download numbers in the Philippines. Now, together with Globe, there are even more convenient and value-for-money ways for Filipinos to enjoy HBO GO – so we’re looking forward to seeing these numbers rise even further'.
Currently, Globe Prepaid users may go for an extra 1GB for HBO GO with GoWATCH10 on top of their favourite Go promos via the GlobeOne app to enjoy HBO GO. New Globe at Home postpaid subscribers and plan upgraders starting December 1, 2020, can receive three months of the streaming service.
Coming soon in 2021, Globe Postpaid and Prepaid customers will also be able to subscribe to the service via the GlobeOne app, with Globe Platinum customers able to charge their subscription under their monthly consumable allowance.
The announcement was made earlier today at the Wonderful World of Globe event in Manila. Ernest Cu, Globe President and CEO, added that: “Globe further strengthens its commitment to give our customers access to the very best in entertainment. Together with HBO GO, the Filipino consumer is now able to recreate their viewing experience with more options to watch anytime and anywhere.”
HBO Asia's Original, Folklore, returns for a new season
In addition, WarnerMedia announced that has commissioned a second season of horror anthology series Folkore for HBO Asia, just two years after the debut.
Season two will follow the same format but will this time comprise seven stories that examine the human condition when exposed to supernatural powers.
The directors are Sittisiri Mongkolsiri from Thailand, Shih-Han Liao from Taiwan, Erik Matti from the Philippines, Billy Christian from Indonesia, Nicole Midori Woodford from Singapore and Bradley Liew from Malaysia. Pop singer-songwriter Seiko Matsuda will be making her directorial debut with the Japanese episode.
Production of the 7×60’ second season is due to begin in early 2021, ahead of broadcast later in the year.
Magdalene Ew, head of entertainment at WarnerMedia India, South-East Asia and Korea, said: 'The horror genre has always worked well in Asia. Following the success of the first season of Folklore, WarnerMedia has greenlit the second season of the award-winning series, expanding the anthology series to more Asian countries'.
