Animasia Studio: new co-production agreement with China
The Malaysian production company Animasia Studio Sdn Bhd secures a USD 5.2 millions co-production agreement with one of Chinas largest animation producer Zhejiang Zhongnan Animation (ZN Animation). The exchange took place during the 7th China International Cartoon & Animation Festival (CICAF), witnessed by Mr. Ye Ming, The Deputy Mayor of Hangzhou City and president of CICAF.Adam Ham, executive director of Global Creative and Media Agency (GCMA) who facilitates the Malaysian Pavilion at Marche du Film (Cannes) explained: ‘Cannes brought together opportunities between Malaysia and China. With approximately 30% Chinese population, Malaysia is no doubt an ideal partner for future co-productions’.
The co-production of this 2D High Definition comedy animated series will be titled My Brother is Monkey King, and the first season comprises of 52 episodes of 11 minutes. ZN Animation and Animasia Studio will be in charge of the development of the story and design, while the former will produce the series.
ZN Animation is one of the largest Chinese animation companies and has produced over 10 major animation titles in China and has a strong TV exposure over CCTV China. ‘Our products have reached nearly 70 countries worldwide, and this collaboration will further boost the core strengths of both companies’, commented Jane Wu, EVP of Zhejiang Zhongnan AnimationGroup.
Kamil Othman, VP of Multimedia Development Corporation (MDeC), added: ‘Animasia Studios has been focusing on its capabilities not only technically but in manpower development, market access and storytelling: the qualities needed to provide a strong foundation to bring Malaysian stories and services to the world’.
The Malaysian production company was recently certified with ISO9001:2008. Top series of Animasia, such as Bola Kampung, Supa Strikas, ABC Monsters have been exported to major channels like Cartoon Network, Disney Channel, Al Jazeera etc. ‘This partnership gives us an opportunity to enter the Chinese market with greater confidence’, finalized Raye Lee, CEO of Animasia Studio.
