Canada: Guru Studio, good for kids
Guru Studio is an interesting Canadian kid-oriented producer. Though the company doesn’t do a lot of marketing, it has good alliances with important players, both in content production and distribution. One of its current animated products, True & the rainbow kingdom, is a Netflix original production.Mary Bredin, EVP Content, said: ‘We make focus on producing certain products but with very good quality. When the TV channels get in touch with us, we usually build a good relationship. We are trying to make us more known in the international market, from Europe to Latin America’.
‘We are present in Discovery Kids/Family for the U.S. Hispanic market, with Nickelodeon we have Dog Patrol, among other titles. Ever After High was produced for Mattel and Netflix. A new product we see a lot of potential is Justin Time, animated. It is a good show of the new times in kids content’.
Recently, the company announced the sale of True & the Rainbow Kingdom (10x’22) to Netflix. Produced with Home Plate Entertainment and I am Other, the series is a mix between comedy and adventure, giving positive messages like magic, luck, and friendship.
