MIPJunior & Mipcom 2013: Kick-off!
MipJunior starts today its activities at Carlton hotel in Cannes, and with it, the whole Mipcom 2013 machine. It is expected one of the top events ever in France: according to Laurine Garaud, TV division director at Reed Midem, about 13,000 executives will attend MipJunior and Mipcom this week, from 500 to 1000 more than last editions. About 4,500 from them are buyers, 500 more than usual. There are already 800 buyers from digital platforms.Figures more or less, this is a huge Mipcom. Over 70 companies are taking a stand for the first time at the event, so Reed Midem has set up a new space, Croissette Village, opposite the Palais.
Emergent markets are more protagonist than ever this Mipcom: Argentina is the Country of Honour, and is bringing about 300 executives that usually don’t attend the event. The country --driven by INCAA, its main media public entity-- has a special place on its own, Espacio Argentina, and a full program of activities, including 5 top conferences on Monday and Tuesday mornings.
On Monday midday, it is held a LATAM Global Dealmakers Lunch, a senior-level gathering of the 80 most influential entertainment executives from Latin America, which is hosted by Amado Bodou, Vice President of Argentina, Liliana Mazure, INCAA president, and Emilio Romano, US Hispanic Telemundo president.
Also, there are global hotspots on Turkey & Africa, another top emergent markets. They are ‘a close look to new production opportunities from raising new markets’.
Mipcom highlights: The Personality of the Year Gala Dinner (October 9, 8pm) will take Jeffrey Katzenberg, CEO, DreamWorks Animation. Among the Media Mastermind Keynotes, Dan Rose, VP of Partnership, Facebook, and Roy Price, director Amazon Studios… digital landscape is on top. Also, Katzenberg from Dreamworks, Ryan Kavanaugh, from Relativity Media (another movie head); Frances Berwick from Bravo and Style Media, Punit Goenka from Zee, Michel Wright from Turner and Cecile Frot-Coutaz from FremantleMedia.

And Fiction screenings will be Black Sails (Starz) Allies (Telefe, Argentina), Hinterland (All3Media), Instructions not included (Highland Film Group). Garaud: ‘A message I would like to give is… leave some time open for making new contacts. The reach of the show is getting deeper and wider every year’.
